STUDENT ART EXHIBITIONS

Guidelines for Submission

It is our pleasure to showcase exceptional artworks by young people at the Gilcrease Museum.  In order to present student works appropriately, teachers are asked to comply with the following guidelines.

  • Art teachers are asked to choose the best work to display from student efforts.

  • The maximum number of pieces accepted for an exhibition is 50.  Average size for wall works is set at 11" X 14;" smaller pieces are acceptable.  The overall number of pieces accepted will change if very large pieces are submitted, e.g. 36" X 36."

  • Two-dimensional works must arrive matted and ready to hang. Wall relief works must arrive with hanging hooks or hanging wires attached.

  • Three-dimensional works should fit in a pedestal space no larger than 12" X 12." No more than 10 pieces of this nature can be included in the 50 total pieces allowed.  Allowance may be made for more than 10 pieces if individual works are small.

  • Subject matter chosen by the artist to portray should be appropriate for public display. The museum reserves the right to make final exhibition content decisions.

  • Each piece should clearly carry the name of the artist on the back or base.

  • Wall labels must accompany each piece measuring 3" X 5."  Typed information on the white, card-stock label must include:

    1. Artist Name
    2. Title, if available
    3. Medium
    4. School/Grade Level

  • Pieces that arrive without a label will be returned to the school's representative.

  • Works must remain on display at the museum for the entire exhibition run.

  • Art teacher contact will provide the museum with one or two digital images from the exhibition in advance to be used on the museum's website during the school's exhibition run.

  • Flash photography will be allowed in the student display galleries only during an official artists' reception. In general, the museum's policy is no flash photography in its galleries.

  • Art teachers or designated representatives of the school will deliver and pick-up all art works by pre-arrangement with museum staff. Museum Security is not authorized to release artwork without specific staff approval.
