Sandy Scott
Sandy Scott trained at the Kansas City Art Institute and worked as an animation background artist in the motion picture industry before turning her attention to etching and printmaking in the 1970s and sculpture in the 1980s. In the early 1980s she moved to Sommerset County, Maine and established her first studio. Later she moved west to be closer to the foundries that cast her work. She now maintains studios in Fort Collins, Colorado; Lander, Wyoming; and Lake of the Woods, Ontario, Canada. She is subject of the book Spirit of the Wild Things—The Art of Sandy Scott.
“With a father who is an outdoorsman, my love of the outdoors was cultivated at an early age,” explains Sandy. “I've always loved to fish and I've backpacked and camped in some of this country's most beautiful places.”
Her awards and prizes for sculpture and etching are impressive and include recognition from such organizations as The National Academy of Design, American Artists' Professional League, and the Gold Medal for sculpture from the National Academy of Western Art. She is on the teaching staff for the Scottsdale Artists' School and the Loveland Academy of Fine Art. Scott's work may be seen in many public installations and museums, including the National Museum of Wildlife Art, Museum of Arts and Crafts and the United States Military Academy.
