Morris Rippel
Morris Rippel, a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, finds a broad field of subject matter in the cool shadows and warm light of canyons, rural villages, and cottonwood trees of the Southwest. He began his painting career in 1964, after practicing as an architect for fifteen years. A degree in architecture provided him with a structured discipline in the fine arts, especially in understanding scale and perspective.
In 1979, Rippel was presented the prestigious Prix de West Purchase Award for an egg tempera painting titled Bluebirds. He has received five Gold Medals and two Silver Medals in the watercolor category at the National Academy of Western Art shows.
In 1988, Rippel was the featured artist at Rendezvous. He exhibited his paintings in an invitational show at the Royal Watercolour Society in London, England in 1992. He has been featured in numerous publications.
Rippel was commissioned in 1994, by The Albuquerque Museum of Art and History to paint early Old Town Albuquerque. He painstakingly researched through documents and photographs to accurately portray in egg tempera, Old Town One Hundred Years Ago. The painting remains on permanent display.
