James Asher

James Asher attended Central Missouri University on an art scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. He then earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, California.

While studying at the Art Center, he developed a dedication to traditional painting techniques. For over 30 years he has pursued his passion for painting, exploring a wide variety of subjects from the Pueblo Indian cultures and mountain villages of New Mexico to the majestic beauty of the western landscape. His first show in a London Gallery inspired a large body of European subjects. Since then, he and artist wife, Joe Anna Arnett have traveled every year to such destinations as France, Italy, Spain, England, The Netherlands, Ireland and Scotland, often teaching in these inspiring locations.

His work has been exhibited at Gilcrease Museum, the National Museum of Taiwan, the Albuquerque Museum, the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, the New Mexico Museum of Art in Santa Fe, and the Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos. He has also exhibited at the Artists of America show at the Colorado Historical Society, the Prix de West Invitational Art Exhibition at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, and the Royal Watercolour Society in London.

Asher has been profiled in American Artist, Southwest Art, Western Art Digest, and may other prestigious publications. He has written articles for The Artist's Magazine and Watercolor Magic. He was the featured cover artist for Watercolor Handbook, June 2003 issue.

In Santa Fe, Asher exhibits his paintings at Zaplin Lampert Gallery.
