Sunday Matinee Films - Union Pacific
STEAM TRAIN SERIES: A three-part series on the steam train and its impact on changing the terrain of The West as well as those who lived and travelled there. Dr. Joseph Kestner, Director of Film Studies at the University of Tulsa, will provide pre-film commentary and lead the audience dialogue following the screening.
As a player in the nation’s quest to link two oceans and open up the West, the Union Pacific Railway experienced its share of sabotage and intrigue en route to Ogden, Utah. Weaving the action of steam engines, train wrecks, romance, politics and classic Western brawling, this film tells the story of heroes and villains who helped and thwarted the process resulting in driving the golden spike. Directed by Cecil B. DeMille; starring Barbara Stanwyck, Joel McCrea, Akim Tamiroff, Robert Preston, and Lynne Overman. B&W, 1939, 135 minutes, not rated.
Mar. 7th - Films will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Tom Gilcrease Jr. Auditorium
