1776-1876: A Century of American History in Art
On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence and forever changed the course of American history. Over the next 100 years, the United States experienced Revolution and Redcoats, expansion and removal, war and Southern secession - each a defining event in our collective past.
This exhibition combines rare documents, the historical portraits and scenes from the Gilcrease collection that reflect on the first century of an American past and ultimately pay tribute to the citizens of our enduring Republic.
The exhibition opens August 25th and runs through May 11th, 2008.
